Peter 'Biggles' Flick

1932 - 2017
On-on in peace

Biggles passed on-on 3rd May 2017 and his cremation took place on Friday 26th May at the Exeter Crematorium. On Tuesday May 30th a church service was held at St Andrew's Church, South Tawton with a "jolly wake" at the Victory Hall, South Zeal afterwards. Below are a few words and memories from his numerous hash friends from across the years.

3rd May 2017: Its with a heavy heart that I pass on news from Captain Haddock (Kirton H3) this morning that our dear friend and long-time hasher, Biggles, left trail this morning. He had been in hospital at the Royal Devon & Exeter but contracted a respiratory infection which was overwhelming.
Biggles has left instructions for a hash party so everyone should be prepared to remember him as he would have wished. Anyone with relevant photos should dig them out and we will prepare a suitable tableau.
Windy (Co-founder Ashburton H3): "Biggles was always larger than life and I had known him since soon after I first moved to Ashburton in 1974. I never forgot his Biggles Hash at Newton Abbot Racecourse with several hundred hashers hidden in the Grandstand - also his laugh - so infectious and loud it was once used for an advert for Paignton Zoo. Hopefully we will see you in the great on-down in the sky sometime in the future. OnOn Windy"
Teazemaid (Bay of Islands H3, NZ) "Awww...very sorry to hear that. Thoughts from NZ to all of you. Have a great hash party in honour of Biggles.
Mr X (Herts H3): "Sad news, pass on H4's condolences."
Winfield (Teign Valley H3): "I first met Biggles in 1986 at a Ash Hash Trail. A great character who will always be fondly remembered. On-On Biggles! From all at Teign Valley Hash."
Amnesia (Bicester H3): "Saddened to hear the news. Condolences from Bicester H3."
Clepto (Bourne Valley H3): "So sorry to hear this news. Please pass on my sincerest condolences to his family and friends."
Tinkerbell (Tamar Valley H3): "Sad to hear it... Great bloke... Sincere condolences to his family."
SnowWhite (formerly Ashburton H3): "Ahhh - how can any of us ever forget him - we all have so many memories - like a hash laid in plums, Mad Min's care of him and much much else. May he continue to hash with all those others who have gone before."
Buzby (Isca H3): "Biggles was a massive influence on me. His contribution to hashing has been my motivation for the SW Diary and our website. He was a sage and always had time for a chat and a cider and inevitably his raucous laughter would ring out somewhere along the way. I'll raise a glass to his memory tonight at the hash."
Yeuk & Gaffer (Plympton H3): "What a great guy, the epitome of a Hasher with his banter and infectious laugh. He brought a smile to my face when I last saw him on the water stop of the Devon Orienteering Club Long O from Okehampton, I needed a boost. He will be missed."
Creeps (Bicester H3); "I'm sure our paths must have crossed somewhere but on on to beer heaven. xx"
Gromit (Ashburton H3): "Biggles was a founder member of the Ashburton hash and a regular at recentish AH3 big occasions. I also remember him popping up on the Sticklepath horseshoe. I remember the AH3 25th anniversary bash when he was down downing a pint of lager and decided it was too cold and bubbly so threw it over his head! On on Biggles"
Enter The Dragon (Plympton H3): "Always remember that laugh. A great man and hasher. RIP Biggles. On on"
No Butt (Ashburton H3): "Sadly never met Biggles but having been involved in AH3 for 7 years I have heard many many stories and kind words about him. On on Biggles. AH3 is very important to me so for that I thank you x"
Ollie (formerly Ashburton H3): "On On Biggles, my hashing mentor; you will be missed but never forgotten."
Hatrack (Ashburton H3): "On On Biggles. Great guy and first person I met on a UK Hash in '88 when I returned from Far East. He was also instrumental in getting my coach business up and running when I left RN as he gave me all the Devon Orienteering away trips."
Fluffy Dice: (Plympton H3) "Sad news indeed. OnOn Biggles."
Lemon Beaver: (fornmerly Ashburton H3) "Sweet dreams Biggles on on xx"
Fallen Woman (Teign Valley H3): "I will always remember tipping the remains of a bowl of trifle over his bald head when he was fast asleep. Throwleigh village hall I believe. Great guy will be remembered always!"
Maverick (Ashburton H3): "One of the originals. On on Biggles"
Bootsie & Four Eyes (South Hams H3): "We were sorry to hear of Biggles passing. A person who made an impression in many ways! From what he did producing a hashing diary every month etc to his loud laugh and humour. He introduced us to Hashing 28 years or so ago. We were in a pub and heard a chap talking about hashing, we got the contact details from this chap. The contact was Biggles who lived in Ashburton at the time. We arrived at our first hash with Ashburton not really knowing what to expect parked in the town and Windy gave us a lift to our first hash. And the rest they say is history!! Biggles will be a great miss to many."
